Top entries in flags contests unveiled

30 October 2023 • Sarah Medcraf

The winning entries from the competitions to design flags for Banffshire and Moray were unveiled at a series of ceremonies last Saturday.

The competitions were launched back in February, and thousands of entries were whittled down to four finalists in each lieutenancy area by two panels of local stakeholders, before the public chose their favourites.

The winners were present at Castle Hill in Cullen and Elgin Town Hall to proudly hoist their designs into the air and unveil new flags for both Moray and Banffshire.

The Banffshire flag was first raised at the Cullen event at 11 am and then officially in Macduff (Tarlair Golf Course) at 2:30 pm and Portsoy Harbour at 4 pm. Flags were flying in Whitehills and Fordyce on Sunday, with events in Buckie and Keith scheduled for November.

The main Moray flag-raising took place in Elgin at 2 pm, accompanied by simultaneous flag-raising events in Forres (Tolbooth), Lossiemouth (Station Park), Fochabers (Milne's Primary), and Rothes (Glen Grant Distillery).
