SURVEY | Childcare & Tax
20 June 2024 • Sarah Medcraf
At Moray Chamber of Commerce, we continually strive to support our business community and address the challenges you face. As part of this commitment, we are conducting a brief survey to gather your valuable insights on two critical issues: childcare and the Scottish rate of income tax. Both issues are regular topics of conversation amongst our membership, the wider business community and indeed across Scotland through other Chambers of Commerce.
As you will know we’ve been working on the childcare issue in Moray for some time now and whilst some small waves are happening, there is still a long way to go.
We have not asked for written feedback since 2022 so it’s time for us to refresh our data to enable us to accurately and effective lobby for solutions. In relation to the Scottish Rate of Income Tax, Scotland’s new ‘Advanced’ tax band came into effect from 6 April 2024. It applies a 45% tax rate on any portion of an individual's annual income between £75,000 and £125,140. The tax band changes also see the Top band rate – charged on earnings above £125,140 – rise by 1%.
We’ve heard through HMRC and other sources that this Advanced rate is making talent retention and attraction more difficult.
Only one of these topics may be relevant to you, but please do still take the time to complete the short survey. Your feedback is essential in helping us understand the impact of these issues on attracting and keeping talent in your business. The survey consists of just a few questions and will only take a few minutes of your time. Please note we will not attribute any of your feedback to your business with out prior consent.
Why your input matters:
• Childcare: We aim to identify whether childcare concerns are affecting your ability to recruit and retain talent and explore potential community-based solutions.
• Taxation: We want to understand the effects of the recent changes in the Scottish rate of income tax on your business operations and gather suggestions for policy improvements.
By participating in this survey, you will play a crucial role in shaping our advocacy efforts and helping us develop initiatives that better serve our business community.
All businesses are welcome to complete this survey, not just members, so please feel free to share it.
