Summer at Speyside – care home plans community events

25 June 2024 • Sarah Medcraf

A Moray care home is planning a series of summer events for local kids, parents and the wider community.

Speyside Care Home in Aberlour is reviving its ‘Summer at Speyside’ play scheme, with a five-week programme of activities and entertainment for children of all ages throughout July.

Speyside launched its first play scheme last summer and hosted another session during the October school holidays. This year’s programme promises even more fun and creativity, with a strong emphasis on play, music, song, and arts and crafts.

Amanda Shaw, activities coordinator at Speyside, said: “We are delighted to revive our summer play scheme, offering a diverse range of activities that cater to children of all ages. Our goal is to create a welcoming and inclusive environment where children can have fun, make new friends and build connections with our residents.

"We can't wait to see the children and residents bond over music, crafts and games. The joy and laughter that fill our home during these sessions is truly heartwarming. It’s a wonderful opportunity for both generations to come together and learn from each other.”

The play scheme will kick off on July 2nd and will run every Tuesday, from 2.00 - 3.30pm, until July 30th. Each child must be accompanied by a responsible adult.

Meanwhile, Speyside is hosting its annual Summer Fete on Saturday 13th July, with live entertainment from Bunnetz 'n' Beardz and a host of family friendly activities. The event is free, open to all, and runs from 2.00 - 3.30pm.

Residents and staff from Speyside can also be found every Thursday at the Old Station Tearoom in Aberlour, serving refreshments and home bakes at their weekly pop-up tea-room, from 2.00 - 4.30pm.
