SMALL BUSINESS SATURDAY!
We caught up with Nadia Fyvie-Feldmann, founder of Dhow Consulting
What’s the story behind your business name?
A Dhow is an Arabic trading vessel and represents what I stand for: Connecting cultures and industries and bridging the gap between countries and markets.
What do you enjoy most about running your own business?
I get to apply my enthusiasm for economics and people in my work and give back to my community. I also love nothing more than connecting people and hearing about their joint successes further down the line. Finally - it is a huge privilege to be able to work in this extraordinarily beautiful corner of the world.
What’s been the most rewarding moment in your journey as a small business owner?
When a client told me that working with me was a gift she made to herself and her business. It meant everything!
What’s one thing you wish more people knew about the products or services you offer?
Consulting is for everyone - Dhow's client base includes all sizes and types of companies, even freelancers!
Are there any interesting trends you’re seeing in your industry?
I am excited to see more companies venture into process optimisation and understanding that increasing productivity is much more than integrating AI into their business. In tough economic times it is more important than ever to find ways to save time and money. A refreshing change seems to be on the way with traditional companies embracing new ways of doing business and supporting their staff in their professional development.
What’s a typical day like for you as a small business owner?
As an early riser I tend to start work pretty early. I usually co-work first thing in the morning with a friend from university who has just started her own business. We keep each other accountable on goals. Most days I have a few calls to connect with other businesses or freelancers, exchange ideas or discuss opportunities. And the best days are of course client days and events!
What does being part of the small business community mean to you?
Small businesses are the backbone of Scotland and we are a tenacious and cooperative bunch - it means a lot to me to be a part of this community and to give back.
