PLANTING THE SEEDS FOR A GREENER FUTURE
13 December 2024 • Sarah Medcraf
Forres-based AES Solar has planted 540 trees in Keith, contributing to local reforestation efforts and supporting environmental sustainability.
Landowners Kristian and Ellie Schofield had an area of land where they wished to see new trees planted. Through discussions with the Woodland Trust Scotland, the couple expressed their desire to get involved in creating a new forest, and the connection with AES Solar was made. Among the new trees planted is a range of native species including Scots pine, juniper, willow, oak, birch, holly, hawthorn, and rowan.
Jamie Di Sotto, Commercial Director at AES Solar, said: "We want to thank Rory Finlay from the Woodland Trust Scotland for recommending the site to plant the new trees, and for his enthusiasm, guidance, and assistance in connecting with landowners and advising throughout the process.
“Landowners Kristian and Ellie Schofield were fantastic to work with and matched our desire to contribute to creating a new forest. This partnership has helped us give back to the local environment, creating a new woodland that will benefit the environment and future generations.”
Members of the AES Solar team travelled to the site in Keith to plant the new trees. The team had support from the Woodland Trust Scotland, guiding them on the correct practices when planting young trees to ensure they have the best chance of maturing into a healthy and thriving forest.
Rory Finlay, Croft Woodland Advisor at The Woodland Trust, said: “The project was really rewarding. Planting the right trees in the right place with conditions suitable for their long-term survival is really important. Doing that with a great bunch of people makes it even better. Thanks to everyone who contributed.”
