One of Moray’s best-known businessmen has been awarded an OBE in King Charles’ New Year Honours list.
Sandy Adam is the founder and chairman of Springfield Properties which still has its headquarters in Elgin despite now operating across most of Scotland.
Speaking about the award, he said: “It is a real honour to receive recognition for a company with strong roots in Moray and the Highlands. It’s a tribute to all the hard work and dedication of our employees over many years. I strongly believe everyone in Scotland deserves a good home and I am very proud of Springfield’s commitment to providing high quality, energy efficient homes across Scotland.”
Mr Adam started his working life as a farmer but began first to renovate properties before moving on to building them from scratch. Having taken on his first member of staff in 1996, he now employs about a thousand people. Springfield Properties has continued to grow and grow over the years. During 2011 it expanded into the central belt after buying Redrow’s Scottish business.
Being listed on the London Stock Exchange’s Alternative Investment Market (AIM) in 2017 then provided the necessary funding for a whole series of further purchases.
These, namely, have been the Glasgow-based Dawn Homes, the Edinburgh-based Walker Group and the Inverness-based Tulloch Homes, as well as Mactaggart & Mickel who operate in the Glasgow and Edinburgh areas.
In addition to his house building activities he was also the driving force behind the creation of the Moray Sport Centre on Elgin’s Linkwood Road.
