DORENELL RANGERS’ OPEN INVITATION TO LOCAL PEOPLE

12 July 2024 • Sarah Medcraf

Later this month Dorenell Wind Farm Visitor Centre will open its doors to local people giving them a unique opportunity to learn about the wildlife in the area and hear about the work of the local rangers.

Dorenell Ranger Service works year-round to preserve and enhance the natural environment while informing local people about the important work they do. Last year the duo from the Ranger Service engaged with more than 500 young people and adults through a series of events and visits. And this year they are stepping up their activities and offering the chance for people to head to the visitor centre for an open day on Saturday July 20 from 10am to 4pm.

The visitor centre, located in the Cabrach near Dufftown, will be the hot bed for activity throughout the day where there will be interactive exhibits, hands-on activities for all ages, and talks from the rangers.

EDF Renewables UK’s 59-turbine Dorenell wind farm is located a short distance from the visitor centre and was commissioned in March 2019 and generates 177MW of electricity.

Stephen Reeves, Senior Ranger at Dorenell Visitor Centre: “We are so excited to open the doors of the Visitor Centre giving local adults and children an opportunity to take a behind-the-scenes look at some of our activities.

“This event ties in with our wider programme throughout the rest of the year and is a unique chance to learn more about what we do, about the local wildlife and the environment around the wind farm.”
