Clan launches 'invisible' birthday cake

Leading north-east charity Clan Cancer Support is asking local restaurants to add its invisible birthday cake to their menus to help the charity celebrate its 40th anniversary and support people impacted by a cancer diagnosis.

Customers can add a slice of the calorie free item to their order by scanning a QR code displayed on a special birthday menu and making a suggested donation of £3.

There is no requirement for businesses to serve cake to donors and the donation will be used by the charity across its centres across the north-east, Moray, Orkney and Shetland to provide emotional and physical support to anyone impacted by a cancer diagnosis.

The activity is just one of the ways the charity is trying to raise its £2m annual fundraising target as part of its 40th anniversary campaign, Part of the Clan.

Fiona Fernie, Clan’s CEO, said: “Throughout our anniversary year we’re trying new ways of engaging our supporters and our invisible birthday cake is an easy and fun way for anyone to support Clan.

“Demand for our services has now surpassed pre-pandemic levels and as an entirely self-funded organisation, we’re reliant on the generosity of our supporters to help us provide our much-needed services.

“A slice of our invisible cake is the most charitable way to enjoy a treat this festive period and beyond. It’s completely sugar-free and every single penny goes towards helping our Clan centres provide physical and emotional support for people impacted by a cancer diagnosis.”

The Part of the Clan campaign is a rallying call for people in Clan’s local communities to do what they can to support the charity generate income, increase its volunteer numbers and reach more people who have been impacted by a cancer diagnosis.

The campaign is being supported by Strachans, with the leading distributor of Food and consumables to the Offshore Energy sector funding a TV advertising campaign for the charity.

About Clan Cancer Support

Clan Cancer Support (Clan) is the longest standing commercially independent cancer support charity in the north of Scotland, with all services sustained entirely by fundraising.  

Clan provides free physical and emotional support for people of all ages and with all types of cancers from its network of wellbeing centres across the north-east, Moray, Orkney and Shetland.  

The charity helps people navigate a diagnosis by giving them the tools to build resilience and improve their emotional and physical wellbeing.
