AJ Engineering Supporting Apprenticeships

10 May 2024 • Sarah Medcraf

In its 25th year, and owner Alan James, a former apprentice himself, often stating that “apprentices are the lifeblood of the company,” AJ Engineering is looking to recruit its fourth Graduate Apprentice.

The firm is advertising for a graduate apprentice in BEng (hons) Engineering: Design and Manufacture.

The course includes a thorough grounding in engineering principles, concepts and theories while appreciating the complexity and interaction of managerial, technical and environmental issues in the modern workplace.

In 2017, the engineering and construction company became one of the first in the north to take on an engineering graduate apprentice when the scheme was first launched.

In February, the achievements of Jack Lowes, were celebrated. Jack had completed a graduate apprenticeship degree in Design and Manufacturing with Robert Gordons University, finishing with a first-class honours and top of his class.

And later this year, Quality Manager, Jazmin Kellas will complete her Graduate Apprenticeship in Business Management.

Alan James himself a time served apprentice, starting out with William Reid Engineering Ltd said: “Since AJE was founded, we have always had apprentices.

“When the Graduate Apprenticeship scheme was launched, we jumped at the chance to be involved and have continued to employ one GA every year and enable bright, young minds from Moray to earn while they learn.”
