MISS
May 2023
Please name the main purpose of your business.
MISS offers a confidential space for anyone in Scotland to receive support, information and advice as well as understand they are not alone after going through miscarriage. We also offer support for next pregnancy and taking a different pathway.
What are the benefits to operating in Moray?
MISS have been primarily based in the north-east of Scotland since our creation in 2017; however, having seen the need for support all over Scotland, we wish to expand our resources into the Highlands so that all families can access support after Miscarriage if they need us.
How do you connect to your local customers?
To allow us to connect with families all over Scotland, most of our initial contact is made through our online platforms:
https://linktr.ee/Miss_Support
https://www.facebook.com/miscarriagesupportscotland/
Once a member reaches out to us, we have a variety of support we can offer, including:
- 1:1 with our Support Coordinator or one of our Support Volunteers through video call, phone chat, email, text messaging or WhatsApp – whichever the member is comfortable with.
- If someone wishes to request support or a memory box, they can do so here: https://forms.gle/EYc3cTLckCXFAEza8
- Phone support – 07808638428
- Email support – advice@miss-support.org.uk
- Group Support – this is virtual at the moment, with our next informal group on Thursday, 11th of May, at 7.15pm and can be signed up for here: https://virtualmiscarriagesupportgroup.eventbrite.co.uk/
- A private Facebook group: https://www.facebook.com/groups/280719059079315
We also provide support packs and memory boxes to Dr Gray’s Hospital in Elgin, as well as working with SANDS to improve facilities within their bereavement room. We are developing our support within local GP practices and with community midwives as well.
Why are you part of Moray Chamber of Commerce?
One of MISS’ main aims is to raise awareness of Miscarriage and try to reduce the taboo surrounding it. By joining the MCC we hope to extend our reach to families within Moray, as well as all over Scotland, so that families going through Miscarriage know how to reach out to us and that they are not alone.
In trying to reduce the taboo surrounding Miscarriage, we have teamed up with MIST to provide 3 workshops on Miscarriage and Work during September, October and November. By joining the MCC we hope that businesses within Moray will attend our workshops and begin to develop Miscarriage Leave Policies to support their workforces.
More information about these can be found here: https://MiscarriageAndWork.eventbrite.co.uk
As a charity, we rely solely on fundraising and grants to keep providing the support we do. We are busier than ever, along with other groups, we have worked hard to raise awareness of Miscarriage and to change the outdated taboo surrounding it. This has led to an increase in demand for our services; since the beginning of Covid, we have provided over 5000 memory boxes, support bags, pregnancy after loss support bags and overnight bags. We are encouraged to see our services providing much needed support but this also leads to the issue of raising enough funds to meet those demands. If anyone in Moray would like to help us fundraise, please reach out: fundraising@miss-support.org.uk
What are you most proud of?
We are proud that we provide all of our support for free to families all over Scotland, so that anyone can access our help when they need it. We are also proud of the way the charity has grown and developed since beginning in 2017, our team is expanding and so is our reach to provide support to those families going through Miscarriage and seeking help during a Pregnancy After Loss.
